I'm that annoying friend who tells everyone they need a side hustle and
that they also need to learn to manage their finances.
No one wants to hear it though, because "they don't make enough money"
to save money. They have to spend everything in order to maintain their
lifestyle.
No I can't in good conscience sit back and allow that to happen and since
you're reading my emails I will do the same for you because I care
and I know that if you put just 10% of your paycheck in savings
automatically you'll get clarity in life.
I will definitely be writing a blog post on this topic so that you can understand
what I mean. 10% of your income should automatically go into savings.
No exuses.
Today I want to talk about the side hustle topic I started with earlier and more
importantly I wanted to share with you
My First Side Hustle
While I was in highschool I would buy candy in bulk at a store called Costco.
I would then take bits at a time to school and sell them. I realized
just selling about a dozen was enough to replenish my supply.
I got the idea because at the time my mom was the only person taking
care of five of us and she could not afford to get me what I wanted and
I couldn't bare to ask her ecause I realized how hard she worked for us.
I first started by doing chores for my neighboors and then used that money
to buy candy in bulk. That was the beginning of my entreupreunerial journey.
It didn't last long though because I was called into the principal's office
and told not to sell candy to students anymore...bummer!
Since then I've had many side hustles and I'm going to give you ideas
that you would hopefully find helpful.
Hustle 1: Provide a Service
Put your current skills to good use!
There is something you know how to do that someone will pay you to do
for them. So why not sell that as a service, you'll be helping someone out and
get paid to do so.
There are sites like upwork.com and Fiverr.com where you can provide services
Get exposure and you open the doors to different opportunities.
Hustle 2: Be the middle man - Buy Low Sell High
That's essentially what I did when I was selling candy in highschool.
There are places where you can find good deals on items and re-sell them
at a more expensive price and earn a good commission.
You can go on a site like Craigslist for items that appear to be undervalued.
Your goal is to acquire something at a great deal and re-sell it.
Hustle 3: Share what you have
You can sign up for companies like Airbnb, Lyft and Uber or maybe you know
of simmilar companies you can use as leverage.
Many of these companies have specific requirements but they are usually
simple to get started and they make sure you earn a commission for the
service you're providing.
